Creating dream homes
Putting the joy into interior design.
My story
Fuelled by a life-long love of art and design, I set up Howson Design with the aim of giving more people the colourful, creative homes they deserve.
For me, interior design is not about keeping up with the latest trends or the Pantone colour of the year, it’s about doing what makes you feel good and surrounding yourself with beautiful things.
A well-designed home should be one that feels like an extension of your personality, a place you can’t wait to get home to every day.
My approach
As a former art and design teacher, I love using my creative background to create exciting spaces for my clients, but I’m very aware that simply looking nice is not enough.
I believe spaces should not just be lived in, they should reflect the people that live in them. The first step is always to understand my clients’ needs and desires, and then interpret these in a way that triggers emotion and feelings.
I'll help you move away from the beige, discover new possibilities and have the confidence to try things you may never have thought of before.
A seamless service
I’ll be on hand every step of the way – project managing from concept to completion.
I’ll coordinate my trusted team of tradespeople – from joiners to electricians, plasterers to floor layers. No more hanging around waiting for people to arrive, I’ll ensure everyone is in the right place at the right time.
My close links with a wide range of designers, suppliers and artisans – from well-known manufacturers to more exclusive brands – give you access to high quality products you won’t find on the high street, often at a lower cost than buying from big name stores.
“Katy had a great way of nudging us out of our comfort zones but still listening to and understanding what we needed.
What we’ve ended up with is really, really beautiful. It suits us, and the style of the house. We love it.”
My inspiration
An appreciation of good design is in my blood, having grown up with a father in the creative industries. Some of my earliest memories are of visiting his apartment in Covent Garden, which was filled with an incredible fusion of 70s and 80s design.
His entrepreneurial spirit was also a huge inspiration for me. Originally an art and design teacher, I’d always had a desire to do something that allowed me to embrace my creativity more fully and it was after dad passed away in 2013 that I realised I needed to make a change. I named my business after him (his surname was Howson) and I love that it allows all those early inspirations and memories to live on through great design.
Howson Design is based in Nottingham but works with interior design clients across the Midlands and beyond.
